Nucor Reports Results for 4th Quarter, Year Ended 2011
Jan. 27, 2012 - Nucor Corp. reported consolidated net earnings of $137.1 million on consolidated net sales of $4.83 billion for the fourth quarter, and consolidated net earnings of $778.2 million on consolidated net sales of $20.02 billion for the full year 2010.
SMS Meer to Expand Bar Mill for Deutsche Edelstahlwerke
Jan. 27, 2012 - Deutsche Edelstahlwerke has contracted SMS Meer for the expansion of the 3-roll Precision Sizing Mill at its Siegen-Geisweid, Germany, plant to include an automatic size control system with cross-section measuring module. The project is scheduled to be implemented in spring 2012.

Jan. 27, 2012 - Jiangsu Sunshine in Dajiang, China, recently went into full production with the new electrolytic tinning line supplied by Tenova Strip Processing.
Allegheny Technologies Reports 4th Quarter, Full Year 2011 Results
Jan. 27, 2012 - Allegheny Technologies Inc. reported net income for the fourth quarter 2011 of $31.7 million, or $0.29 per share, on sales of $1.25 billion. For the full year 2011, net income was $214.3 million, or $1.97 per share, on sales of $5.18 billion.
Kobe Steel Establishes Steel Wire Processing Company in China
Jan. 27, 2012 - Kobe Steel, Ltd. has established a company in Foshan, Guangdong Province, China to make steel wire for use in high-quality springs. The new company, Kobelco Spring Wire (Foshan) Co., Ltd., will begin operations in the first half of 2013.
Steel Dynamics Reports 4th Quarter, 2011 Results
Jan. 26, 2012 - Steel Dynamics, Inc. announced net income of $30 million on net sales of $1.9 billion for the fourth quarter, and net income of $278 million on net sales of $8.0 billion for the full year 2011.
Nucor to Expand Special Bar Quality Production
Jan. 26, 2012 - Nucor Corp. has announced plans for the continued expansion of its special bar quality (SBQ) production capabilities by a combined one million tons over the next two years. 
Tata Steel Proposes Recovery Plan for Tubes Business in Europe
Jan. 26, 2012 - Tata Steel’s Tubes business in Europe has announced a recovery plan to match business operations to current and projected market demand. Four of the company’s Tubes sites in the UK and the Netherlands will be affected.

Jan. 26, 2012 - Lakeside Steel Inc. and JMC Steel Group, Inc. have entered into a definitive agreement pursuant to which JMC Steel Group, Inc., through a wholly owned subsidiary, has agreed to acquire all of the issued and outstanding common shares of Lakeside at a price of $0.2983 per share in cash.

Jan. 25, 2012 - NSMMZ, NLMK’s Urals-based Long Steel Division steelmaking facility, has successfully re-launched the second electric arc furnace at its Revda steelmaking facility following repairs to a transformer.
Preliminary Finished Steel Imports Up 15% in 2011 vs. 2010
Jan. 25, 2012 - The U.S. imported a total of 1,997,000 net tons of steel in December, down 6% vs. the November final data, according to the latest report from AISI. Finished steel imports were down 9% through the same period.
AK Steel Announces Stainless Steel Price Increase
Jan. 25, 2012 - AK Steel announced plans to increase base prices for all 200, 300 and 400 series flat rolled stainless steel products, effective with shipments on March 4, 2012.
Izhora Pipe Mill Produces Record 500,000 Tonnes of LD Pipes
Jan. 25, 2012 - OAO Severstal announced that its pipe production unit, the Izhora Pipe Mill, produced more than 500,000 tonnes of large-diameter (LD) pipes in 2011, representing a 10% increase on 2010 production levels, primarily for use in major oil and gas projects in Russia.
Siemens to Supply Bar Mill for ASCE Group OJSC, Armenia
Jan. 25, 2012 - Siemens VAI Metals Technologies has received an order from Armenian steelmaker ASCE Group OJSC to supply a new bar mill for its production location in Charentsavan. The scope of the project includes the mechanical equipment, electric and automation, the water treatment plant, and auxiliaries.
2011 World Crude Steel Production Finishes 6.8% Ahead of 2010
Jan. 24, 2012 - World crude steel production for the 66 countries reporting to the World Steel Association stood at an estimated 1526.9 million tonnes for the year 2011, 6.8% vs. 2010 and a record for global crude steel production.
Siemens to Supply Baku Steel with EAF, Waste Gas Cleaning Plant
Jan. 24, 2012 - Azerbaijani steel producer Baku Steel has ordered a new electric arc furnace from Siemens VAI Metals Technologies as part of an expansion project to raise its production capacity to around 1.1 million tonnes of steel per annum. The project also includes the supply of mechanical equipment for a ladle furnace and a waste gas cleaning system.

Jan. 23, 2012 - RG Steel announced that the “L” blast furnace at its Sparrows Point plant has resumed operations and should reach normal operating rates within several days. ThyssenKrupp Steel Europe Trains New Experts in Industrial Firefighting
Jan. 23, 2012 - Eighteen young firefighters recently completed an 18-month chief fire officer training course at ThyssenKrupp Steel Europe in Duisburg. After they complete 10 months of intensive practical and paramedic training, they will be given permanent jobs at the company’s sites in Duisburg, Bochum, Dortmund, and Siegerland.
JSW Steel Reports Highest-Ever Production Volume for Q3 FY 2011-12
Jan. 23, 2012 - JSW Steel Limited reported the production of 1.939 million tons of crude steel, the company’s highest-ever quarterly volume of production, as well as highest-ever quarterly sales volume of 1.908 million tonnes of steel in the third quarter of FY 2011-12.
