Danieli Undertakes Structural Mill Project in India
Mar. 22, 2010 - Rashtria Ispat Nigam Ltd., a Government of India Enterprise, has contracted Danieli to supply a new 850,000-tonnes-per-year structural mill that will produce a range of structural section types and sizes, at rates of up to 200 tonnes per hour.
Posco Stainless Material ASTM-Registered
Mar. 22, 2010 - A new stainless steel material developed by Posco, the 445NF, has been registered with the American Society for Testing Materials (ASTM) with the serial number S44536. The new steel will mainly be used for kitchen utensils and interior materials of elevators.
Corus Raises Prices for Reversing Mill Plate
Mar. 22, 2010 - Corus Long Products is increasing transaction prices for reversing mill plate by £60 per tonne, effective on all orders received from March 22. The increase is in addition to the £60-per-tonne rise introduced from February 7.
Power Plant to Become Subsidiary of ArcelorMittal Ostrava

Mar. 22, 2010 - Outokumpu employees of Röyttä harbor in Tornio are scheduled to return to work on March 22. The stevedores' strike in Finland ended March 19.
U.S. Service Centers Report Year-on-Year Growth in Steel Shipments for February
Mar. 19, 2010 - February steel shipments from U.S. metals service centers rose 10.4% above shipments for February 2009 – the first year-over-year since April 2008 - according to the latest Metals Activity Report from the Metals Service Center Institute.
Posteel Opens New Pipe Plant in Oman
Mar. 19, 2010 - Posteel recently opened Gulf International Pipe Industry (GIPI), a new 250,000-tonne production facility specializing in API pipes based in Sohar, Oman. Posteel will supply 100,000 tonnes of hot-rolled coils annually to GIPI, which are needed to produce the pipes.

Mar. 19, 2010 - Mechel OAO cites a report released in early March by Prommetiz stating that two of Mechel’s steel division plants retained their leading position among Russian hardware producers that are members of the association during January and February.

Tenova Core to Upgrade Reheat-Furnace Combustion System at Siam Yamato
Mar. 18, 2010 - Tenova Core will revamp the combustion system of the existing walking beam reheating furnace at Siam Yamato Co. Ltd’s plant at Maptaphut Rayong, Thailand. The project aims to reduce the amount of NOx being emitted through the furnace stack.
Harsco Expands Environmental Services to Baosteel

Mar. 17, 2010 - ArcelorMittal has announced plans to build an EAF-based rebar plant in Northern Iraq in partnership with Turkish partner Dayen.
Nucor Announces Guidance for First-Quarter Earnings
Mar. 17, 2010 - Nucor Corp. announced guidance for its first quarter ending April 3, 2010. The company expects first-quarter results to be in the range of ($0.05) to $0.05 per diluted share, compared to a loss of $0.60 per diluted share in the first quarter of 2009 and earnings of $0.18 per diluted share in the fourth quarter of 2009.
Siemens VAI Names New Head of Long Rolling Business
Mar. 17, 2010 - Hubert Max Köbach has been named Chief Executive Officer of the Morgan Construction Co. and head of Siemens VAI Metals Technologies Long Rolling Business, replacing Philip R. Morgan on January 4, 2010. Morgan Construction was acquired by Siemens in April 2008.
January Steel Shipments Up 9% from December
Mar. 17, 2010 - U.S. steel mills shipped 6,579,808 net tons for the month of January 2010, a 9.0% increase from the previous month according to the latest report form AISI.
United States Steel Announces Pricing on Senior Notes Offering
Mar. 17, 2010 - United States Steel Corp. announced the pricing of its public offering of $600 million aggregate principal amount of 7.375% Senior Notes due 2020. The notes were priced at 99.125% of the principal amount.
NLMK Resumes Hot-Rolling Production Upgrades
Mar. 17, 2010 - NLMK Steel has resumed its upgrade of Continuous Reheating Furnace No.3. The project was launched in 2007 but was suspended due to the economic crisis.
Handan Iron & Steel Orders Combi-caster from Siemens
Mar. 16, 2010 - Siemens VAI Metals Technologies will supply a five-strand combi-caster to Handan Steel Works in China. The new plant will be capable of producing a total of 1.45 million tonnes of beam blanks and blooms per year.
Air Liquide to Build Air Separation Unit for Chinese Steel Producer
Mar. 16, 2010 - Air Liquide will invest about €40 million in Yichun, Heilongjiang Province, to supply Xilin Steel Group with oxygen, nitrogen, and argon. A 1200-tonnes-per-day Air Separation Unit will be designed and built by Air Liquide Hangzhou and is expected to be commissioned in Q1 2012.
Patriot Sells Metallurgical Coal to Asian Destinations
Mar. 16, 2010 - Patriot Coal reaches agreement to sell approximately 1.5 million tons of metallurgical coal to steel mills in the Pacific Rim, with delivery beginning in April 2010 through early 2011.
PTC Alliance Obtains Court Authority to Proceed with Sale Auction
Mar. 16, 2010 - PTC Alliance has obtained court approval to conduct an auction for the sale of substantially all of the company's assets in the U.S. and the stock of its non-debtor German subsidiary, Wiederholt GmbH.
Mechel Establishes Representative Office in China
Mar. 16, 2010 - Mechel OAO established its representative office in Chaoyang District, Beijing, on March 5 to support its business in China and cooperate on expansion in the country.
CMC Anticipates Second Quarter Loss
Mar. 15, 2010 - Commercial Metals Co. is estimating it will record a net loss between $170 and $180 million ($1.50 to $1.60 per share) for the quarter ended February 28, 2010.
Baosteel Completes First Export Contract for Cold-rolled Stainless Steel
Mar. 15, 2010 - Coordinated by Baosteel Co., Ltd. Stainless Steel Business Unit and Baosteel America Inc., more than 120 tonnes of 304 stainless steel produced by the Baosteel Stainless Steel Cold Rolling Project mill that was recently put into production were shipped to the U.S. on March 7.
Danieli Supplies Equipment for “Twin” Wire Rod Mills in China
Mar. 15, 2010 - Danieli is supplying key equipment and technology for two high-speed wire rod mills, each with a capacity of 750,000 tonnes per year, under construction at Shangdong Laigang Yongfeng Steel for production of engineering and special steel wire rod in coils.
Tenova Core Consteel® Startup at CMC Mesa
Mar. 15, 2010 - Commercial Metals Co. (CMC) has recently completed the successful startup of a new Consteel system designed and supplied by Tenova Core. The new CMC micro-mill plant located in Mesa, Ariz., is producing reinforcing bar.
