Steel Producers / AK Steel AK Steel Supports Emergency Relief Efforts in Haiti

Jan. 25, 2010
AK Steel has donated $100,000 through its foundation to help support emergency relief efforts in Haiti following the tragic earthquake earlier this month. The company's donation was split equally between Doctors Without Borders and the American Red Cross.

"We share the concern of countless others for the safety and well-being of everyone in Haiti," said James L. Wainscott, AK Steel Chairman, President, and CEO. "Our thoughts and prayers are with the victims and families affected by this disaster."

The company is also encouraging its employees to take advantage of the AK Steel Matching Gift Program, if they choose to personally support the relief efforts. When employees make a donation to an eligible nonprofit, the AK Steel Foundation will match the gift in accordance with the program's guidelines.

AK Steel produces flat-rolled carbon, stainless, and electrical steels, primarily for automotive, appliance, construction, and electrical power generation and distribution markets. The company has about 6200 employees in Middletown, Mansfield, Coshocton, and Zanesville, Ohio; Butler, Pa.; Ashland, Ky.; Rockport, Ind.; and its corporate headquarters in West Chester, Ohio.

AK Tube LLC, a wholly owned subsidiary of AK Steel, employs about 300 men and women in plants in Walbridge, Ohio, and Columbus, Ind. AK Tube produces carbon and stainless electric resistance welded (ERW) tubular steel products for truck, automotive, and other markets.
