Casey to Sell Idled Calumet Meltshop Facility
May 31, 2007 Casey Equipment announced that they have been hired as the Exclusive Sales Agent for the sale of an idled meltshop at the site previously operated by Calumet Steel.
Calumet Steel Co. produced special-bar-quality (SBQ) steel at its facility in Chicago Heights, Ill., before filing chapter 7 in March of 2002. The facility had a rated annual capacity of about 150,000 tons of merchant bar and SBQ products, although it had not been producing at that level in its final years.
The meltshop includes two 30-ton electric arc furnaces and a twin-strand curved-mould Rokop billet caster. Specifications are available online at www.surplusmeltshop.com.
