SMS Demag Consortium to Supply Coupled Pickle Line-Cold Mill for Tiantie
Jul. 1, 2006
Tianjin Tiantie Metallurgical Group Steel Plate Co. Ltd., China, has commissioned a consortium under the leadership of SMS Demag, Germany, to supply a pickling line coupled with a five-stand, six-high tandem cold rolling mill with CVCPlus technology.
The 1,580,000 tonne/year line will produce pickled, cold-rolled steel strip in gages from 0.25 to 2 mm and widths from 700 to 1,600 mm for use in the automotive and household appliances industries.
Coils arriving from the hot rolling mill will be joined to form an endless strip by means of a laser-type welder. The strip will be cleansed of scale deposits by pickling, then reduced to the desired final gage, which may be as little as 0.25 mm, in the five-stand rolling mill at speeds of up to 1,250 meters/minute. The rolled strip will then be recoiled onto a carrousel reel. To ensure continuous operation, the facility will feature three horizontal strip accumulators and two coil inspection stations.
The scope of supply for the pickling line comprises a tension leveler unit with drive system, a turbulence pickling line with a pickling optimization model, and a trimming shear. The pickling line will be equipped with energy-saving, patented immersion covers in order to conform to strict environmental requirements.
Included in the tandem mill’s scope of supply are the mill stands with CVCPlus6 technology, the dry strip system and the stand piping in modular construction. In addition, SMS Demag will supply a rotating drum shear that cuts the cold strip at high speeds while the process is running. The SMS Demag carrousel reel will ensure continuous recoiling of the cold strip without interruption to the continuous pickling and rolling process.
Commissioning of the coupled pickling line/tandem cold mill is scheduled for March 2008.
SMS Demag AG forms part of the Metallurgical Plant and Rolling Mill Technology Business Area of the SMS group.
