Process / Converter Steelmaking SMS Siemag to Extend X-Melt Converter Shop at Dragon Steel

Dragon Steel Corp., Taichung, Taiwan, has placed an order with SMS Siemag to supply the third 230-tonne converter as part of the extension of the carbon steel plant (Phase II).
 
SMS Siemag’s supply scope comprises the converter with lamella suspension, bottom stirrers, and a sublance with robot; the complete bin system for ferroalloys; the gas cleaning system with primary and secondary dust collection as well as the gas recovery system, all vehicles, ladles, and slag pots.
 
For the visualization and control, SMS Siemag is supplying the complete X-Pact® Level 1 automation system and the instrumentation for the electrical equipment.
 
The third converter is scheduled to be commissioned in 2012. The converter shop, with a total of three converters, is designed for an annual production of 6 million tonnes of steel.
 
SMS Mevac has received an order to supply a second RH-TOP facility.
 
Converters Nos. 1 and 2 as well as the first RH-TOP facility were successfully put into operation at the beginning of this year. Thirty-four heats per converter have already been produced in 24-hour operation.
