ThyssenKrupp Nirosta Permitted to Dispose Slag at Marbach Landfill Apr. 13, 2012 - ThyssenKrupp Nirosta has received permission from Hagen environmental agency to continue to operate and increase the capacity of the Marbach landfill in Bochum-Hamme. The approval notice allows the company to dump slag from its neighboring Bochum stainless steel mill.

ArcelorMittal Ostrava Cuts Annual Solid Emissions by 40% Apr. 5, 2012 - ArcelorMittal Ostrava cut its emissions of solid pollutants by 40% over the past year, releasing 669 tonnes of dust particles into the air in 2011. A program of environmental investments worth close to three quarters of a billion Czech crowns was started this year that will cut sulfur dioxide emissions from its coking and steel plants.

ArcelorMittal Ostrava Donates Waste Heat to Neighboring Town Feb. 27, 2012 - ArcelorMittal Ostrava reports that around 500 households in the town of Vratimov, which has a population of nearly 7000 inhabitants, are heated ecologically by its waste heat. As a result, Vratimov was able to shut down all of its boiler stations burning fossil fuels.

Siemens Delivers Secondary Dedusting System for Severstal Converter Feb. 22, 2012 - Siemens VAI Metal Technologies received an order from OAO Severstal to install a secondary dedusting system in the converter steelmaking plant at the Cherepovets production site. The new secondary dedusting system is scheduled to go into operation in mid-2015.

Vale Approves 'Clean AER' Project Feb. 21, 2012 - Vale has approved a $2 billion investment in the "Clean AER” (atmospheric emissions reduction) Project, which will see sulfur dioxide emissions at Vale's smelter in Sudbury, Ont., reduced by 70% from current levels. Project completion is estimated near the end of 2015.
