Steel Producers / Hylsa Techint Goodfellow to Provide EFSOP System for CMC Meltshop

Jul. 28, 2006

July 28, 2006 — Techint Goodfellow Technologies Inc. has received a purchase order from CMC Steel for one Goodfellow EFSOP system for the company’s Alabama melt shop (formerly known as SMI– Alabama).

The new EFSOP system will incorporate continuous off-gas based closed-loop process control of the EAF. It will continuously measure and analyze EAF off-gases (CO, CO2, H2, O2) at the fourth hole for real-time closed-loop process control of EAF steelmaking. Techint Goodfellow Technologies says the new system will result in improved operations, energy savings, lower conversion costs and safety benefits.

This is the third Goodfellow EFSOP system for the CMC Steel Group.

CMC Steel Alabama is a member of the CMC Steel Group, a family of vertically integrated companies involved in the entire steel production process. These include scrap metal processing and rail salvage, steel production, fabrication (rebar, structural, pipe, joist, and fence post), and value-added operations such as heat treating and the distribution of concrete related products.

Headquartered in Dallas, Texas, Commercial Metals Co. (CMC) is a Fortune 500 company and a leader in manufacturing, processing, fabrication, trading and distribution of steel, primary and secondary metals, and numerous raw materials.

Techint Goodfellow Technologies is a company founded in Mississauga, Ont., Canada, and integrated as a member of Techint Technologies, the plantmaking division of Techint Group.

Techint Technologies designs and supplies a wide range of equipment and services for the metals, glass and raw materials industries. The Techint Group manages Tenaris (Dalmine, Siderca, Tamsa, NKK Tubes, Algoma Tubes, Silcotub and Confab) and Ternium (Siderar, Sidor and Hylsamex).
