VAI to Install Downcoiler at Sollac Mediterranee Jul. 1, 2005 - Voest-Alpine Industrieanlagenbau (VAI) was recently awarded a contract by Sollac Méditerranée, a company of the Arcelor group, to supply a new high-duty downcoiler for their existing Hot Rolling Mill at Fos sur Mer, France.

VAI to Modernize Posco Pickling and Oiling Line Jul. 1, 2005 - Voest Alpine Industrieanlagenbau GmbH (VAI) received a contract from Posco, South Korea, to modernize a Pickling and Oiling Line in their Kwangyang works. The upgraded line will have an annual capacity of 800,000 tonnes of high quality sheet for direct sale in local and international markets.

EU Commission Approves Siemens' Acquisition of VA Tech Jul. 1, 2005 - The EU Commission has approved Siemens’ bid to take over Austria’s VA Technologie AG (VA Tech). This marks the conclusion of the antitrust review of the takeover offer made by Siemens AG Österreich in December 2004.

VAI to Modernize Salzgitter Flachstahl Cold Mill Jun. 1, 2005 - Salzgitter Flachstahl GmbH (SZFG) in Salzgitter, Germany, recently awarded VAI Automation a contract to modernize the complete automation system of its 5-stand Tandem Mill. As part of the contract, VAI will also supply a new Bending System for stands 1 to 4, including a plant safety system.

VAI to Construct World's Largest Corex Plant Jun. 1, 2005 - Voest-Alpine Industrieanlagenbau GmbH & Co. (VAI) recently received an order from Shanghai Baosteel Pudong Iron & Steel Co. Ltd., a company of the Shanghai Baosteel Group Corp., for the construction of what will be the largest Corex® plant worldwide at Luojing in Shanghai, China.

VAI Starts up Revamped Slab Caster for Shagang Mar. 1, 2005 - Voest-Alpine Industrieanlagenbau GmbH (VAI) recently started up the twin-strand No. 1 Slab Caster it had modernized for Jiangsu Shagang, P.R. China. The caster upgrade was part of a steel plant relocation project from Germany to China, where VAI was the technology provider for the entire production route.

VAI Reports Strong Order Book for January Jan. 1, 2005 - Building on its record year 2004, VAI has continued its successful business development at the beginning of 2005. As Gerhard Falch, Voest-Alpine Industrieanlagenbau GmbH Chairman and Vice-Chairman of VA Technologie AG explains, “Due to the taking effect of the major orders from Hadeed worth around EUR 340 million, negotiated and agreed upon in October 2004, and other contracts worth more than EUR 160 million from Saudi Arabia, the CIS, China, Iran, Poland and Turkey, VAI can already point to an order intake in January 2005 of over EUR 500 million.”

Contract Growth Continues for VAI Dec. 1, 2004 - Voest-Alpine Industrieanlagenbau (VAI) has logged new orders from Asia, Russia and Western Europe with a total value of around EUR 100 million, raising company order intake at the end of November 2004 by more than 50% compared to the same period of last year.

Corus to Expand Sinter Output with VAI Grate Width Extension Technology Jul. 19, 2004 - VAI Industries Ltd. will implement VAI’s patented Grate-Width Extension Technology in partnership with Corus Strip Products. The contract, valued at approximately 10 million Euro, will raise Corus’ average weekly sinter production from 78,000 to 95,000 tonnes, an increase of more than 20%.

Voestalpine Stahl Slab Caster Started up Jun. 29, 2004 - VAI and Voestalpine recently started up a new CC 6 single-strand slab caster for Voestalpine Stahl GmbH, Linz. Start-up for the caster, which took place ahead of schedule, is one component of a large-scale enlargement project for the Linz location, referred to as “Linz-Project 2010”.
