Process / Long Products Rolling Danieli to Supply SBQ Rolling Mill for Shougang Baoye

Jul. 8, 2008
Shougang Baoye Co., Ltd, P.R. China, recently awarded Danieli an order to supply a new high-capacity rolling mill for production of 1.0 million tonnes/year of large-size SBQ bars.

The 220-tonne/hour rolling mill will be made up basically of a reversing breakdown stand, plus a continuous finishing mill made up of eight stands in H and V arrangement. Fast changing systems will be provided for both breakdown and finishing stands as part of the "ready-to-roll" concept. This—together with the dedicated roll-pass design arranged in families—will enhance the mill's efficiency and operation flexibility.

State-of-the-art finishing facilities will feature online hot saws for net-end cutting-to-length of bars to further enhance product marketability.

The new mill will produce 80- to 300-mm round and 140- to 160-mm square SBQ bars from 370- x 490-mm blooms, weighing from 6.2 to 9.4 tonnes. Products will include quality carbon and alloy structural steels, ball bearing, spring, cold heading and pipe blank grades for automotive, engineering and mechanical manufacturing applications.

The project will be jointly executed with DME-Danieli Metallurgical Equipment (Beijing) Co. Ltd. Plant startup is scheduled for the Q3 2009.
