Morgan to Build Combination Mill for Acindar
Jul. 1, 2006
July 2006 — Morgan Construction has been awarded the contract for a new combination bar and rod mill for Acindar in Villa Constitución, Argentina, which will be the first reducing sizing mill (RSM) in South America.
The new high-efficiency mill will be designed to roll special bar quality (SBQ) products for high-end industrial applications, including the automobile industry. Products will range in size from 5.0- to 88.9-mm round, as well as squares, hexagons, flats and rebar.
The combination mill will feature controlled temperature rolling, which will allow Acindar to produce thermo-mechanically rolled rod and bar product. Morgan says the controlled temperature rolling coupled with the RSM’s single family rolling technology will provide Acindar with the optimum in rolling efficiency and processing flexibility.
Acindar has been a customer of Morgan Construction since the 1940s, and has several Morgan mills in operation. The mill under construction will replace an older bar and skelp mill, which will help to increase Acindar’s capacity for long products. The new mill’s production is expected to be 500,000 tons per year, with commissioning projected for July 2007.
Acindar is owned by Belgo Mineira, part of Luxembourg-based Arcelor Group, the world’s second-largest steel company.
Morgan Construction Co. designs and produces high-quality rolling mill products and services for the metal industry worldwide.
