North America Northwest Pipe to Supply Pipe for Two Major Water Pipeline Projects in Utah

Jun. 4, 2009
Northwest Pipe Co. has been selected as the pipe supplier for two major water pipeline projects that represent a total contract value of $14 million.

For the first contract, Northwest Pipe will supply approximately 10,000 feet of 96-inch pipe for Ames Construction of West Valley City, Utah. Northwest will manufacture the pipe, which will be used for the Utah Lake/Spanish Fork Reach 3 project, at its Adelanto, Calif., facility. Delivery is scheduled to begin late in the third quarter of this year.

For the second contract, which is with SJ Louis Construction of Mansfield, Texas, Northwest Pipe will supply approximately 20,000 feet of 60-inch pipe for the Utah Lake/South Fork to Provo Canal/Mapleton Reach project. The company plans to manufacture this pipe at its Saginaw, Texas, facility, with delivery to begin early in the third quarter.

Both projects are part of the Central Utah Project Completion Act (CUPCA). Enacted in 1992, CUPCA removed responsibility for completing the Central Utah Project (CUP, a federal water project) from the US Bureau of Reclamation then distributed project responsibility to the Utah Water Conservancy District.

Water developed by the Central Utah Project will be used for municipal, industrial, irrigation, hydroelectric power, fish, wildlife, conservation and recreation applications. The project will improve flood control capability and assist in water quality control. These orders are for a continuation of a pipeline from the Strawberry Reservoir to the Provo Canal.

Northwest Pipe manufactures welded steel pipe and other products in two business groups. Its Water Transmission Group is the leading supplier of large diameter, high-pressure steel pipe products that are used primarily for water infrastructure in North America. Its Tubular Products Group manufactures smaller diameter steel pipe for a wide range of applications including construction, agricultural, energy, traffic and other commercial and industrial uses. The company is headquartered in Vancouver, Wash., and has ten manufacturing facilities across the United States and Mexico.
