North America Northwest Pipe, Lucid Energy Technologies Introduce PowerPipe Technology

Jun. 10, 2009
Northwest Pipe Co. and Lucid Energy Technologies, LLP announced the successful completion of preliminary testing of Northwest PowerPipe™ (patent pending, worldwide rights reserved), a renewable power-generation prototype.

Northwest Pipe will display a version of the Northwest PowerPipe prototypes in its booth at the American Water Works Association's Annual Convention & Exposition June 14-18 in San Diego, Calif.

Staff from both companies will be on hand to answer questions and provide information about their micro hydro technology.

Designed for installation in new or existing water transmission pipelines, Northwest PowerPipe will ultimately enable utilities to transform excess head pressure in their lines into electricity, thus enabling the capture untapped energy from normal pipeline operations without disrupting water flow. It is anticipated the systems will be available in 2010.

By combining their extensive knowledge of turbine design and water transmission, the two companies seek to continue developing cost effective, alternative, distributed energy solutions.

Northwest Pipe manufactures welded steel pipe and other products in two business groups. Its Water Transmission Group is the leading supplier of large diameter, high-pressure steel pipe products that are used primarily for water infrastructure in North America. Its Tubular Products Group manufactures smaller diameter steel pipe for a wide range of applications including construction, agricultural, energy, traffic and other commercial and industrial uses. Headquartered in Vancouver, Wash., the Company has ten manufacturing facilities across the United States and Mexico.

Lucid Energy Technologies, LLP is a clean tech firm in Goshen, Ind., focused on the design and commercialization of renewable energy systems that generate electricity from wind and water. Lucid applies its breakthrough technologies in commercial systems, enabling customers to generate renewable electricity on or near the point of consumption and brings energy solutions to the marketplace.
