North America Auto/Steel Partnership Chair Honored with Special USCAR Award

Jun. 23, 2010
The Steel Market Development Institute (SMDI) announced that John Bohr, chair of the Auto/Steel Partnership’s (A/SP) Advanced High-Strength Steel Joining Team, is the recipient of the United States Council for Automotive Research LLC (USCAR) Special Recognition Award. Bohr was presented with the award by USCAR Executive Director Don Walkowicz during the annual USCAR Recognition Luncheon.

"Through John's long-term leadership, A/SP's Advanced High-Strength Steel Joining Team has developed technology plans, implemented research programs, and integrated those findings into production," said Ronald Krupitzer, Vice President of Automotive Applications for SMDI. "His unprecedented support of collaborative research and development continues to provide significant value towards advancing applications of steel in the automotive industry."

"Receiving the Special Recognition Award goes way beyond individual recognition," Bohr said. "It acknowledges the collaborative efforts of automotive and steel experts and the progress both industries are making together towards safer, lighter, and greener cars."

Founded in 1992, USCAR is the collaborative automotive technology organization for Chrysler Group LLC, Ford Motor Co., and General Motors Co. The goal of USCAR is to further strengthen the technology base of the domestic auto industry through cooperative research and development.

The Steel Market Development Institute, a business unit of the American Iron and Steel Institute (AISI), grows and maintains the use of steel through strategies that promote cost-effective solutions in the automotive, construction, and container markets, as well as for new-growth opportunities in nontraditional steel markets. The Automotive Applications Council is a part of the SMDI and focuses on advancing the use of steel in the automotive market.
