Nucor Exec Reappointed to United States Manufacturing Council
Aug. 6, 2010 Nucor Corp. Chairman, President, and Chief Executive Officer Daniel R. DiMicco has been reappointed to serve on the United States Manufacturing Council. DiMicco has served on this board for the past two years, serving as a liaison between the federal government and the country's manufacturing sector.
The Manufacturing Council comprises 24 leaders of the domestic manufacturing sector who represent a cross section of U.S. industry. The Council advises the Secretary of Commerce on matters relating to manufacturing sector competitiveness and government policies and programs that affect U.S. manufacturers.
Nucor says that DiMicco was selected “because of his unflagging support of domestic manufacturing and his leadership on the issues for rules based free trade.”
DiMicco has been President and Chief Executive Officer of Nucor Corp. since 2000. He was elected Vice Chairman in 2001 and Chairman in 2006. He has held increasing roles in management since he joined Nucor in 1982.
Prior to Nucor, DiMicco worked for Republic Steel Corp. after completing his Masters in Science Degree in Metallurgy and Materials Science from the University of Pennsylvania and his Bachelors of Science in Engineering, Metallurgy and Material Science from Brown University.
Nucor and affiliates manufacture steel products, with operating facilities primarily in the U.S. and Canada. Products include carbon and alloy steel bars, beams, sheet and plate; steel joists and joist girders; steel deck; fabricated concrete reinforcing steel; cold finished steel; steel fasteners; metal building systems; light gauge steel framing; steel grating and expanded metal; and wire and wire mesh. Nucor, through The David J. Joseph Co., also brokers ferrous and nonferrous metals, pig iron and HBI/DRI; supplies ferro-alloys; and processes ferrous and nonferrous scrap. Nucor is North America's largest recycler.
