NUCOR STEEL HEADLINES

Steel Producers / Nucor Steel Nucor Restarts Extended Stacking Plant at Jewett

Sep. 11, 2006

Sep. 11, 2006 — Nucor Steel recently restarted its Jewett No. 1 Bar and Light Section Mill, following an upgrade of the mill’s magnetic stacker.

Danieli expanded the existing 18-meter long, single-head magnetic stacker by adding a new six-meter long section. The upgraded stacker can operate in one single or two independent and symmetrical sectors.

With the stacker upgrade, the mill is now able to process four 6-meter, two 12-meter or one 18-meter bar layers, thus enhancing plant’s production flexibility. The mill produces up to 75-mm angles and channels, 25- to 100-mm flat bars and up to 35-mm plain and deformed rounds, in up to 5-ton stacks, at rates of up to 110 tons per hour.

Danieli Automation supplied the electricals, automation and process control system. Danieli had supplied the original stacker to Nucor in 2000.
