Industry Suppliers / Parsytec Parsytec Sells 50th Hot Mill Inspection System to Baosteel

Sep. 1, 2004

Parsytec AG has received an order from Shanghai Baosteel Co. Ltd. to equip Baosteel’s Hot Mill No. 1580 in Shanghai, China. The order marks the 50th time that a leading steel producer will equip a hot rolling line with the Parsytec inspection solution.

Installation of the Parsytec inspection system at the No 1580 Hot Strip Mill follows Parsytec's successful installation at Baosteel’s No. 2050 Hot Strip Mill.

Regular experience exchange among the hot mills using Parsytec solutions has shown that most facilities achieve rapid return on investment following installation, as expensive manual tail-end inspection can be reduced to a minimum. Real-time detection of roll defects enables immediate roll changes, preventing scrap production. Based on the comprehensive and reliable Parsytec data, coil releasing has also become more efficient.

As the first stage in a complex production chain, hot mills offer a high leverage on overall production efficiency, yield, quality costs and achievable customer quality. Hence, hot mill inspection often turns out to be the starting point for a standardized enterprise-wide inspection infrastructure. Such an infrastructure requires a scalable technology, which is able to share inspection results across production lines, to integrate third-party data, and support cross-line decision making. This is made possible with parsytec 5i - the Surface Excel, which enables the development of innovative solutions for improved quality decision making.

Shanghai Baosteel Co. Ltd., China's leading steel manufacturer, is one of the Top 10 international steel producers. It operates more than 100 production lines and has an annual production volume of 20 million tonnes.

Headquartered in Aachen, Germany, Parsytec AG is exclusively focused on products supporting surface quality yield management. Concentrating on the steel, aluminum, and paper industries, and based on its technological leadership, Parsytec is the world's largest vendor of surface inspection systems by revenue. Today, 9 of the Top 10 steel producers apply the Parsytec technology.
