Mechel Launches New Converter at Chelyabinsk
Aug. 24, 2011 - Mechel OAO has launched the new converter #2 in Chelyabinsk Metallurgical Plant’s oxygen-converter shop. Replacement of the converter #2 is the first stage in a reconstruction program for the plant’s oxygen-converter shop.
ArcelorMittal Kryviy Rih Breaks Converter Lining Record
Aug. 19, 2011 - The converter shop of PJSC ArcelorMittal Kryviy Rih achieved a record vessel-lining life for converter #5 of 4,070 steel casts implemented during its campaign life from December 4, 2010, to August 15, 2011.
SMS Mevac to Supply Twin Ladle Furnace for China Steel
Aug. 17, 2011 - China Steel Corp., located in Kaohsiung, Taiwan, has commissioned SMS Mevac, Germany, to supply a 270-tonne twin ladle furnace for its No. 2 BOF Steelmaking Plant.

Jun. 30, 2011 - Tenova Goodfellow Inc. recently received an Award of Excellence for the company’s installation and commissioning of their Slop Detection System Technology on five BOF vessels at (Riva Group) ILVA, Taranto, Italy.
Siemens to Supply AOD Converter to Viraj Profiles
Jun. 7, 2011 - Siemens VAI Metals Technologies won an order from stainless steel producer Viraj Profiles Ltd. to supply an AOD (argon-oxygen decarburization) converter for its plant located in Tarapur, Maharashtra, India. The project is scheduled for completion by mid-2011.

SMS Siemag to Upgrade Gas Cleaning System for ArcelorMittal Kryviy Rih BOFs
May 25, 2011 - ArcelorMittal has placed an order with SMS Siemag for a comprehensive revamp of the gas cleaning equipment at its steelworks in Kryviy Rih, Ukraine. The new system will use SMS Siemag’s hydro-hybrid filter technology.

Apr. 29, 2011 - Metinvest is launching BOF steel rails production at Azovstal Iron and Steel Works. The manufacturing procedure for the rails production has been approved by Azovstal’s strategic partner, Ukrainian Rail monopoly Ukrzaliznytsya.
Tata Steel Invests in Cooling at Port Talbot Steelworks
Apr. 27, 2011 - Tata Steel has invested £53 million at its Port Talbot works to introduce in the Basic Oxygen Steelmaking plant a new cooling system that will produce steam, allowing electricity to be generated. The investment reportedly will reduce its external power requirements by about 15%.
Metinvest to Overhaul Hot Metal Mixer at Ilyich Steel BOF Plant
Mar. 31, 2011 - Metinvest is carrying out major overhaul of the 1300-tonne Mixer #3 at Ilyich I&SW’s LD Shop. The upgrade also will help to reduce unwanted inclusions in the molten metal by some 50 to 60%.
Metinvest to Double BOF Durability at Yenakiieve Steel Works
Mar. 30, 2011 - Metinvest is preparing to overhaul its 160-tonne BOF vessel at Yenakiieve Iron and Steel Works. According to the company, the upgrade will effectively double the durability of the vessel.

Bhilai Steel Plant Sets Record for Converter Lining Life
Dec. 2, 2010 - Bhilai Steel Plant of Steel Authority of India Ltd. (SAIL) has set a national benchmark with Converter ‘C’ in its Steel Melting Shop-II recording 12,325 heats in lining life before it was taken down for relining. The plant broke its own previous national record for top-blown converters of 11,036 heats achieved by Converter ‘B’.
Siemens Commissions Second Converter and Caster for ThyssenKrupp CSA
Nov. 29, 2010 - Siemens VAI Metals Technologies recently started up the LD (BOF) converter and continuous slab caster for the second production line at ThyssenKrupp CSA’s Siderùrgica do Atlântico steel mill in Rio de Janeiro.
Evraz Completes Modernization at NTMK
Nov. 26, 2010 - Evraz Group completed the modernization of its converter shop at NTMK, Evraz’s steel mill in the Urals, Russia. The converter shop’s annual capacity increased by 0.7 million tonnes to 4.5 million tonnes of steel as a result of the modernization.
ThyssenKrupp Reaches Production Milestone at Duisburg-Beeckerwerth Meltshop
Sep. 28, 2010 - The Beeckerwerth BOF meltshop of ThyssenKrupp Steel Europe in Duisburg recently produced its 200 millionth tonne of crude steel. The meltshop has a capacity of 5.9 million tonnes of steel per year with an average heat weight of 265 tonnes.
NLMK Upgrades Lipetsk Steelmaking Facilities
Sep. 24, 2010 - Novolipetsk Steel (NLMK) has completed the reconstruction of gas exhaust ducts and the secondary emissions collection and cleaning system at its Lipetsk site.
ThyssenKrupp’s Duisburg-Bruckhausen Meltshop Reaches Production Milestone
Aug. 30, 2010 - ThyssenKrupp Steel Europe’s BOF meltshop in Duisburg-Bruckhausen produced on August 25 its 150 millionth tonne of crude steel.
Siemens to Supply Handan with Electrical Equipment for BOF Converters
Aug. 18, 2010 - Siemens Ltd. China received an order from Handan Iron & Steel Group Co. Ltd. to supply automation and drive equipment for three new BOF converters in its Handan Steel Works. The project is scheduled for completion by year end.
SMS Siemag to Extend X-Melt Converter Shop at Dragon Steel
May 28, 2010 - Dragon Steel Corp. has placed an order with SMS Siemag to supply the third 230-tonne converter as part of the extension of the carbon steel plant (Phase II). The third converter is scheduled to be commissioned in 2012.

May 26, 2010 - Dragon Steel of Taichung, Taiwan, has awarded SMS Mevac a contract to supply a second RH-TOP unit, which is the expansion of the secondary metallurgical key equipment for the new BOF steelworks.
Praxair Canada to Supply Essar Steel Algoma
May 20, 2010 - Praxair Canada and Essar Steel Algoma sign a long-term supply agreement for the design and construction of a cryogenic air separation plant that will supply 900 tons per day of gaseous oxygen to Algoma’s Sault Ste. Marie steelmaking plant.
Corus Invests in Steelworks to Reduce Carbon Dioxide Emissions
May 13, 2010 - Corus recently launched a new plant at its Port Talbot steelworks that will reduce the site’s carbon dioxide emissions by some 240,000 tonnes per year, completing a £60 million investment.

Apr. 28, 2010 - voestalpine Stahl GmbH continued its EUR 700 million investment program “L6” in the 2009/10 business year, despite the poor economic climate. About one-half of all the L6 projects, which extend the annual crude steel production from 5.5 million to approximately 6 million tonnes, were implemented.
Siemens Receives New Order for Dry Dedusting System in China
Apr. 9, 2010 - A steel producer from Northern China has ordered a dry dedusting system from Siemens VAI Metals Technologies that is to be installed in an LD steel works. The project also includes a gas recovery system that collects and treats the converter gas for subsequent power generation.
NLMK Launches Final Stage of Environmental Project
Mar. 18, 2010 - Novolipetsk Steel has begun the final stage of reconstructing the gas exhaust ducts at BOF Shop No.1 at its main production site in Lipetsk, the goal of which is to improve operational reliability and reduce the company’s environmental impact.
Siemens Replaces LD Converters at CSN
Mar. 11, 2010 - Companhia Siderúrgica Nacional (CSN) has placed an order with Siemens for the replacement of two LD converters at its Volta Redonda location. Turnkey delivery of the converters is planned during the summer of 2011 and at the end of 2012, respectively.
SMS Siemag Commissions X-Melt® Converter at Dragon Steel Meltshop
Feb. 26, 2010 - In January 2010, SMS Siemag successfully commissioned the first of two new carbon-steel converters at the Taichung works of Dragon Steel Corp. in Taiwan. The second converter is scheduled to be commissioned this spring.
