SAFETY HEADLINES

Safety AK’s Coshocton Works Honored for Safety Performance

Apr. 23, 2007 AK Steel’s Coshocton, Ohio, Works has earned three awards from the Ohio Bureau of Workers' Compensation, division of Safety and Hygiene for the plant's outstanding 2006 safety performance.

The Coshocton facility received the Group Safety Award for having the lowest incident rate in the industrial group; the 100% Award for operating the entire year without a lost-time injury; and, a Special Award for working 1,433,717 hours without a lost-time injury, from July 13, 2005 to December 31, 2006.

"We congratulate our Coshocton employees for their exceptional safety achievements," said James L. Wainscott, Chairman, president and CEO of AK Steel. "It is especially significant that they worked more than an entire year without a single lost-time injury."

The awards were presented at the Coshocton County Safety Council’s 2007 annual awards banquet, which was co-sponsored by the Coshocton County Chamber of Commerce.

During 2006, AK Steel led the steel industry in safety with a corporate-wide total injury rate 10 times better than the industry average, according to data compiled by the American Iron and Steel Institute.

Headquartered in Middletown, AK Steel produces flat-rolled carbon, stainless and electrical steel products for automotive, appliance, construction and manufacturing markets, as well as tubular steel products.
