Tube City IMS, LLC announced that several of the company's sites had received a total of 35 Safety and
Industry Best Practices awards for 2007 from the National Slag Association (NSA). NSA’s safety awards recognize superior performance as measured against Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) recordable injury rates.
Overall, Tube City IMS received 50% of NSA’s awards recognizing "Job Sites with at Least 200,000 Hours since the Last Recordable Accident" and 60% of the awards presented for "Lowest Incident Rate, 11-50 Employees."

The company’s operations in Beaumont, Texas, and Belle Vernon, Pa., each received two safety awards:
- ”Job Sites with at Least 200,000 Hours since the Last Recordable Accident"
- "Lowest Incident Rate, 11-50 Employees"
The company’s Portage, Ind., site had zero OSHA recordable injuries in 2007. It received two safety awards:
- "2007 Most Improved Job Sites for Safety"
- "Lowest Incident Rate for a Site with 11-50 Employees."
The company’s Axis, Ala., site accumulated 392,718 accident-free man-hours in 2007. It received two safety awards:
- "Job Sites with at Least 200,000 Hours since the Last Recordable Accident"
- "Lowest Incident Rate, 76+ Employees." This location.
The company’s sites in Bridgeville, Pa.; New Castle, Pa.; Parkesburg, Pa.; Park Hill, Pa.; Burns Harbor, Ind.; Longview, Texas; Selkirk, Man., Canada; and Weirton, W.Va., each received an award for zero OSHA recordable injuries during 2007 for a site with 1-10 employees.
The following company sites had zero OSHA recordable injuries in 2007, and each received an award for "Lowest Incident Rate, 11-50 Employees."

- Scarfing operations and Tube City Division scrap processing yard in Ecorse, Mich.
The company’s Middletown, Ohio, operation received the award for "Lowest Incident Rate, 51-75 Employees."
Two company employees—Allan Tokarchuck, Mechanic Welder, and Dan Black, Assistant Superintendent, both of whom work at the company's Regina, Sask., Canada, operation—each received an NSA "Best Practices Award." Tokarchuck earned NSA's top award for his design and construction of a new "Pot Carrier Tire Changer," and Black won the "Great Entry" award for developing a "Container Return Roller Changing Device."
In addition, Steven Perunko, Group Leader at the company's Elrama, Pa., operation, received an award for his safety slogan, "Safety Doesn't Happen by Accident." The NSA will use the phrase as its 2008 safety slogan.
