Feb. 6, 2013 - The American Iron and Steel Institute reported that steel import permit applications for the month of January 2013 totaled 2,629,000 tons — a 12% rise from December 2012.
U.S. Agency to Conduct Five-Year Reviews of Import Duties on Hot Rolled Steel
Feb. 4, 2013 - The U.S. International Trade Commission has voted to conduct full five-year "sunset" reviews concerning the countervailing duty orders on hot rolled steel products from India, Indonesia, and Thailand and the antidumping duty orders on hot rolled steel products from China, India, Indonesia, Taiwan, Thailand, and Ukraine.

Jan. 28, 2013 - Steel imports declined 13.9% in December 2012 compared to November according to preliminary government data analyzed by the American Institute for International Steel (AIIS).
U.S. Imports Decline 14% from November to December
Jan. 24, 2013 - Based on preliminary Census Bureau data, the American Iron and Steel Institute (AISI) reported that the U.S. imported a total of 2,339,000 tons of steel in December 2012, including 1,654,000 tons of finished steel (down 14% and 19%, respectively, from November final data).

Asean Iron and Steel Associations Seek Review of FTA with China
Jan. 21, 2013 - In an unprecedented move, six regional iron and steel associations have joined forces seeking for a review in the Asean-China Free Trade Agreement (FTA) following the dramatic influx of steel products from China into Asean especially over the past three years, said Asean Iron and Steel Council (AISC) president Chow Chong Long, the Malaysian newspaper The Star reports.

Canada Will Maintain Import Duties on Hot Rolled Plate from China
Jan. 8, 2013 - The Canadian International Trade Tribunal found that the dumping of hot rolled carbon steel plate from China was likely to result in injury to the domestic market. The Canada Border Services Agency will therefore continue to impose antidumping duties on these products.
U.S. Agency Will Conduct Second Sunset Review of Duties on Line Pipe from Japan
Jan. 4, 2013 - The U.S. International Trade Commission has voted to conduct a full five- year (“sunset") review concerning the antidumping duty order on certain welded large diameter line pipe from Japan.

Jan. 4, 2013 - U.S. steel imports increased in November compared to October by 2% according to preliminary government data analyzed by the American Institute for International Steel (AIIS).
AISI: December U.S. Imports Down 11% from November
Jan. 3, 2013 - The American Iron and Steel Institute (AISI) reported that U.S. steel import permit applications for the month of December totaled 2,358,000 tons. This was a 10% decrease from the 2,615,000 permit tons recorded in November and down 11% from the November preliminary imports total of 2,659,000 tons.

Mar. 15, 2012 - Imports of total stainless steel in YTD December 2011 totaled 782,838 tons, an 18.1% increase compared to YTD December 2010, according to data from the Specialty Steel Industry of North America. Imports of total specialty steel increased 19.8% in YTD December 2011, to 1,008,750 tons, compared to the same period a year ago.
YTD Finished Steel Imports up 29% through February
Mar. 8, 2012 - Total steel import permit applications reached 2,549,000 net tons for February 2012, a 10% decrease from 2,826,000 permit tons recorded in January according to the most recent report from AISI. Through the first two months of 2012, finished steel imports were 4.1 million net tons, up 29% vs. the same period last year.
Finished Steel Imports Climb 31% in January
Feb. 23, 2012 - The U.S. imported a total of 2,546,000 net tons of steel in January, up 23% from December final data, according to the latest report from AISI. Finished steel imports were up 31% over the same period.
Stainless Imports up 22% Through YTD November 2011
Feb. 20, 2012 - Total stainless imports reached 728,648 tons through YTD November 2011, a 21.8% increase compared to YTD November 2010 according to the latest report from SSINA. Total specialty steel imports (comprising stainless steel, alloy tool steel and electrical steel) reached 937,322 tons through the same period, a 22.8% increase.

Dec. 15, 2011 - Total stainless imports reached 606,917 tons through YTD September 2011, a 30.9% increase compared to YTD September 2010 according to the latest report from SSINA. Total specialty steel imports (comprising stainless steel, alloy tool steel and electrical steel) reached 773,137 tons through the same period, a 30.3% increase.

Nov. 10, 2011 - Total stainless imports reached 557,407 tons through YTD August 2011, a 34.4% increase compared to YTD August 2010 according to the latest report from SSINA.
