Tenova Celebrates 20 Years of Consteel
Nov. 17, 2009 Tenova recently celebrated the twentieth anniversary of Consteel with an international event attended by 150 entrepreneurs and corporate executives from the world steel industry.
After being welcomed by Techint Group Chairman Gianfelice Rocca, guests had the opportunity to hear about “the ‘Consteel Community’ – founded by John A. Vallomy - a group of technologists sharing a commitment to steel, energy and environment sectors in which Techint Group has been working for more than 60 years”.
Guests also visited Acciaierie Arvedi, the world’s largest Consteel plant, and had the opportunity to attend the Consteel Users’ Club Meeting in Milan Tenova Headquarters. Attendees had the opportunity to discuss several papers on the Consteel technology.
As part of the celebration, Techint presented “Consteel, 20 years of a great idea”, a book of photographs released specially for the occasion.
First installed at Gerdau Ameristeel’s Charlotte, N.C., facility, Consteel, the continuous charging system for electric arc furnaces, is now in operation in 36 plants worldwide, representing an installed capacity of more than 30 million tons of liquid steel per year. All of these plants continue to operate as Consteel facilities — none of them has been dismantled or replaced with another technology.
Ten new systems are currently under construction or commissioning.
Tenova designs and supplies advanced technologies, products and services for the metals and mining industries. Tenova operates close to its customers through a network of 33 companies based on the 5 continents.
