SMS Siemag Modernizes Continuous Slab Caster at Jindal Stainless
Feb. 24, 2010 SMS Siemag, Germany, successfully modernized a single-strand slab caster for Jindal Stainless, Hisar, Haryana, India. Startup was in 2009.
The caster, with an annual production of stainless steel of 500,000 tonnes, was fitted with a hydraulic resonance oscillator and the related technology control system. SMS Siemag also supplied the detail design for a new segment 0 (segment underneath the mold).
The resonance oscillator, with variable oscillation frequency, stroke length, and curve shape, is said by SMS Siemag to guarantee a slab surface of “continuously excellent quality,” representing a “considerable” cost benefit especially for stainless steels.
