Danieli Carries Out Ezz Flat Steel Minimill Expansion
Mar. 1, 2010 Danieli is carrying out a major expansion of the Ezz Flat Steel flat products minimill (Ezz Group) located in the Ain Sukhna Industrial Area in Egypt. The expansion is aimed at enlarging the product range to include concrete reinforcement steel bars to increase production flexibility to better follow market trends.
The complex—entirely supplied by Danieli on a turnkey basis in 2000, with a capacity of 1.2 million tonnes per year of hot-rolled steel coil through the thin slab casting and rolling route—will have a billet conticaster and two rolling mills added to produce up to 1 million tonnes per year of rebars.
The steelmaking section will be expanded with the upgrading of the electric-arc-furnace facilities and associated auxiliaries, plus the installation of a new six-strand, 9-m radius conticaster to produce 100- to 160-mm square billets. The two, new “twin” 18-stand rebar mills, each with a 500,000-tonnes-per-year nominal capacity, will produce 10 to 40-mm-diameter rebars, quenched and self tempered on line through the QTB system.
Each mill will be fed by an 85-tonnes-per-hour WH Danieli Centro Combustion reheating furnace and will be entirely composed of ESS compact cantilever stands in H-V and convertible configuration. The two new plants will have the same arrangement and components of the No. 2 bar mill in operation at Ezz’s other minimill for long products, located in Sadat City (Ezz Steel Rebars Co.).
Danieli Automation will supply all electricals and an advanced automation system up to Level 2. The semi-turnkey supply also will include auxiliary plants and equipment, such as a water treatment plant and EOT cranes.
Startup is expected to take place in the third and fourth quarters of this year.
