Mechel Establishes Representative Office in China
Mar. 16, 2010 Mechel OAO established its representative office in Chaoyang District, Beijing, on March 5. Stepan Karapetyan has been appointed the head of the office.
The new representative office will support Mechel’s business in China, cooperate on expansion of its business in the country, work directly with Chinese partners, establish new business contacts, and perform studies on the market dynamics.
Mechel notes that it has had successful sales of iron ore concentrate produced by its Korshunov Mining Plant to China since 2007, and since 2009 coking coal concentrate produced by Yakutugol is supplied to Chinese consumers as well as ferroalloys.
The representative office is the third one opened by Mechel in the Asia-Pacific region; the others are located in South Korea and Japan.
Mechel is one of the leading Russian mining and metals companies. Its business includes four segments: mining, steel, ferroalloy, and power. The company unites producers of coal, iron ore concentrate, nickel, steel, ferrochrome, ferrosilicon, rolled products, hardware, heat, and electric power. Its products are marketed domestically and internationally.
