World Posco to Hire 1000 New Employees

Aug. 23, 2010
Posco and its affiliates have announced plans to hire some 1000 new employees during the second half of this year.

The company said it will now hire 3500 new employees—up from original plans for 2500—considering its investment expansion, plans for new and expanded facilities, increased affiliates through mergers and acquisitions, and hiring expansion of social enterprises.

The number reflects a 44% increase from last year’s total of 2428. The increase includes Posco’s planned hiring increase from 700 to 850, and the company’s affiliates planned hiring increase from 1800 to 2650.

Posco plans to assign the new employees that will be hired in the second half to new investment projects and overseas projects, as well as the R&D field.

Posco and its affiliates also hired interns for the college-graduate new hires. For this category, the number of new hires was increased to 5520, including these interns.

Meanwhile, the company also introduced a system for new hires to be assigned to on-site services at steelworks for 6 months, in support of Chairman Joon-yang Chung’s policy to foster those talented in both liberal arts and science fields. The company also selects 2nd or 3rd year university students as industry-academic scholars (regardless of their major in liberal arts or sciences) and guides them to study a field other than their major.
