Reuters: EU Ponders Energy Tariffs Freeze for Steelmakers
May 10, 2013 - The European Commission has asked EU member states to consider removing tariffs on energy intensive industry, in an action plan drawn up for the steel industry, EU sources said, according to a Reuters report.
March World Crude Steel Production Down 1% Y-o-Y
Apr. 22, 2013 - World crude steel production for the 63 countries reporting to the World Steel Association (worldsteel) was 135 million tonnes in March 2013, an increase of 1.0% compared to March 2012.
worldsteel: Global Apparent Steel Use to Increase 2.9% in 2013
Apr. 11, 2013 - The World Steel Association (worldsteel) released its Short Range Outlook (SRO) for 2013 and 2014, forecasting that global apparent steel use will increase by 2.9% to 1,454 million tonnes in 2013, following growth of 1.2% in 2012.

SEAISI: Apparent Steel Consumption in ASEAN Region Rose 7.6% in 2012
Apr. 9, 2013 - According to the South East Asia Iron & Steel Institute (SEASI), apparent steel consumption in the ASEAN region (Indonesia, Malaysia, the Philippines, Singapore, Thailand, Brunei, Burma, Cambodia, Laos and Vietnam) is estimated to have surged by 7.6% y-o-y to 56.4 million tonnes in 2012.

January 2013 U.S. Steel Mill Shipments at Highest Monthly Amount Since August 2012
Mar. 18, 2013 - The American Iron and Steel Institute (AISI) reported that for the month of January 2013, U.S. steel mills shipped 8,210,726 tons, a 9.7% increase from the 7,483,120 tons shipped in the previous month, December 2012, and a 3.4% decrease from the 8,497,932 tons shipped in January 2012.
