Jun. 22, 2012
United States Steel Corporation announced Eric K. Schomer has been advanced to the position of general manager – procurement, effective 1 June 2012. In this position, he will oversee procurement activities at all U. S. Steel facilities. He will report to Michael J. Hatcher, Vice President-Procurement, Raw Materials & Real Estate.
Schomer, 48, joined U. S. Steel in 1988 as a management associate at the company's headquarters. In 1989, he transitioned to an operations role at the company's Mon Valley Works near Pittsburgh and advanced through a series of increasingly responsible positions at those facilities, including engineering and production leadership roles in caster maintenance at Edgar Thomson Plant and plant services, maintenance and utilities at Irvin Plant. In 2005, he returned to headquarters to serve as purchasing commodity manager in procurement. Schomer progressed through several management positions in procurement before being appointed to his most recent position, general manager – procurement for U. S. Steel Kosice in Slovakia.
Originally from Connellsville, Pa., Schomer graduated from the Harrisburg campus of Pennsylvania State University in 1987 with a bachelor's degree in electrical engineering. He received his master's in business administration from Duquesne University in 1996. Schomer has returned to the Pittsburgh area from Slovakia and is based at the company's headquarters.
